COUPLES DIVISION


OPEN COUPLES

1. OPEN LATIN COUPLES

Definition: This is an Open couple partnership. This division is judged on choreographed performances. Shines are permitted. Any style of Latin dance can be chosen for this division, however you must advise upon registration. You cannot change your style after registering and you cannot mix styles.

Performance must be at least 70% of your chosen style.  Emphasis will be on timing, technique, choreography, musical interpretation and partnering. Lifts, cartwheels and aerials are allowed. Up to 5 tricks with at least one foot always on the floor is allowed. Tricks are any step or position that partner cannot execute without the assistance of their partner. Points will be deducted for any incomplete lifts or tricks.

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

2. TANGO COUPLE - Argentine style (excl. Milonga or Vals)

Definition: This is an Open couple partnership. Division is judged as choreographed performances. Emphasis will be on timing, technique, choreography, musical interpretation and partnering. 70% Tango choreography is required and shines are allowed.  Lifts and tricks are allowed. Tango essence must be shown in all lifts & tricks

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

3. MASTERS OPEN LATIN COUPLES OVER 75

Definition: Combination Of Age must add to a minimum of 75 years. Can be either Professional or Amateur dancers. Any style of Latin dance can be chosen for this division, however you must advise upon registration. You cannot change your style after registering and you cannot mix styles. Performance must be at least 70% of your chosen style.

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

4. SAME GENDER SALSA COUPLES - LADIES

DEFINITION – This category is open to all FEMALE couple partnership. Professionals are welcome to enter this category. Individual choreography is required. Emphasis will be on timing, technique, choreography, musical interpretation, partnering, performance. Up to 5 lifts / tricks permitted.

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

5. SAME GENDER SALSA COUPLES - MEN

DEFINITION – This category is open to all MALE couple partnership. Professionals are welcome to enter this category. Individual choreography is required. Emphasis will be on timing, technique, choreography, musical interpretation, partnering, performance. Up to 5 lifts / tricks permitted. See Rules & Regulations for more information.

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

PRO-AM COUPLES

6. OPEN LATIN PRO-AM MAN/LADY LEAD

DEFINITION – This is a pro am couple partnership. One professional dancer dancing with one amateur dancer to form a partnership. This division is judged on choreographed performances. Shines are permitted. In this division only the amateur is judged. Competitors must be at least 12 years old.

The following styles of latin dance can be chosen for this division – Bachata, Cha cha, Salsa, Merengue & Zouk.

Lifts, cartwheels are not allowed. This will be at the discretion of the judges. Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1.5 minutes and no longer than 2 minutes.

NO ACROBATICS / LIFTS WILL BE PERMITTED. A lift is considered when any of the two dancers both feet are off the ground at the same time and any part of their bodies are touching each other. Tricks / Up to 5 tricks with at least one foot always on the floor is allowed. Tricks are any steps or position that partners cannot execute without the assistance of their partner.

AMATEUR COUPLES

7. SALSA COUPLE

DEFINITION – This is an amateur couple partnership. This division is judged on choreographed performances. Shines are permitted. Performance must be at least 70% Salsa. Performances must maintain a consistency in their timing, synchronization, formations and presentation for the duration of the performance. Also over 70% of the performance must be dancing. Lifts, cartwheels or any similar lifts or tricks are not allowed. Up to 5 tricks are allowed, (please read the definition for tricks).

8. BACHATA COUPLE

DEFINITION – This is an amateur couple partnership. This division is judged on choreographed performances. Shines are permitted. Performance must be at least 70% bachata. Performances must maintain a consistency in their timing, synchronization, formations and presentation for the duration of the performance. Also over 70% of the performance must be dancing. Lifts, cartwheels or any similar lifts or tricks are not allowed. Up to 5 tricks are allowed, (please read the definition for tricks).

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

DEFINITION – This is an Open team partnership. Defined as a team of 3 to 20 dancers. This division is judged on choreographed performances. Shines are permitted. Performance must be 70% Salsa. Performances can be On 1 or On 2 but must maintain a consistency in their timing, synchronization, formations and presentation for the duration of the performance. Lifts, cartwheels and aerials are allowed. Up to 5 tricks with at least one foot always on the floor is allowed. 15. SALSA LADIES TEAM

18. TANGO TEAM

DEFINITION – This is Defined as a team of 3 to 20 dancers. This division is judged as choreographed performances. 19. CASINO RUEDA TEAM

DEFINITION – Defined as a team of 3 to 20 Dancers. Performance must be at least 70% recognized as Casino Rueda. This division is judged on choreographed performances. Performances must maintain a consistency in their timing, synchronization, formations and presentation for the duration of the performance. Also over 50% of the performance must be dancing. Lifts, cartwheels or any similar lifts or tricks are allowed, (please read the definition of lifts and tricks above). Points will be deducted if any lifts / tricks are not executed correctly. This will be at the discretion of the judges

Each couple will perform a routine no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

20. SALSA SOLOIST LADY PRO

DEFINITION – This is a ladies solo salsa pro division. Emphasis will be on timing, technique, choreography, musical interpretation & performance. Tricks, cartwheels and aerials are permitted. This will be at the discretion of the judges. Up to 5 tricks allowed.

Each individual will perform a routine no less than 1 min and no longer than 1 min 30 sec

22. MASTER SALSA SOLOIST LADY OVER 50 OPEN

DEFINITION – This is a ladies salsa solo pro division. Emphasis will be on timing, technique, choreography, musical interpretation & performance. Competitor must have celebrated their 50th birthday by date of competition. Tricks, cartwheels and aerials are permitted. This will be at the discretion of the judges. Up to 5 tricks allowed.

23. MASTER SALSA SOLOIST MAN OVER 50 OPEN

SPECIAL DANCE DIVISIONS

40. FAMILIA - FAMILY COUPLE

DEFINITION – Child or adult dance with parents or grandparents.

The division is for family members to dance among each other and keep the spirit of the music and dance alive for generations to come.  Children will be able to dance with their parents or grandparents.  A variety of music chosen by the DJ will be dance to by the participants.

Winners will be chosen by the audience and all participants will dance on stage at the same time.

DJ’s and Producers will decide how long the participants will dance.  Open freestyle division.

41. LIMITLESS

DEFINITION – This division is designed for physically and mentally challenged dancers.

We will see that music and Latin dance is limitless. One or both of the dancer need to be physically and mentally challenged.  One of the dancer is allowed to not be physically and mentally challenged.

Each couple will preform a routine no less than 90sec and no longer than 2mins.  Acrobatics are allowed.  Tricks, cartwheels and aerials are permitted.  This will be at the discretion of the judges. Up to 5 lifts or tricks are allowed.

Each performance will be no less than 1 min 30 secs and no longer than 2 minutes.

NEW DIVISION

42. SALSA DUO TEAM (NON CABARET)

DEFINITION – This division consists of two(2) couples, 2 x ladies and 2 x men.  This division is judged on choreographed performances.  Shines are permitted. Performances must be 70% salsa. Performances can be On1 or On2 but must maintain a consistency in their timing, synchronization, formations and presentation for the duration of the performance.  No lifts, cartwheels or aerials are allowed (please read the definition for tricks).
